The launch of Whizz x foodpanda: A recap of how we got here.

While being in a start-up can be chaotic, the thrills of the breakthroughs and milestones keep us hungry for more. Today, we’re delighted to announce a huge milestone for us – our partnership with foodpanda!  

We’re ecstatic to have the opportunity for our companies to work together to satisfy the cravings of hundreds of hungry customers at any time of day.

With this partnership alongside foodpanda, we’ve increased our reach by around 30 F&B stores, providing greater freedom of choice to customers looking to indulge, anytime and anywhere.

In addition to that, we’ve extended our delivery hours from 11am to 7pm, bringing greater convenience and flexibility to our food delivery service as customers can now order throughout the day on demand.

Well, how does it work?

As per usual, customers can place their orders via the foodpanda app. However, customers making orders within NTU might be welcomed with a visit by our foodbots! They will be notified about this ‘visit’ beforehand so that upon collection, they’ll know what to expect. 

We’re proud to say that in 1.5 years, not only have we hit this huge milestone, but we’ve come up with a contactless, efficient and environmentally-friendly mode of food delivery.

Now, how did we go about it?

It all started when Melvin Foo, our founder and CEO, had a vision for last-mile delivery – a solution that was safe and reliable, cost-efficient, and sustainable.

Looking back to 2019, with 40k worth of grants, we set off as a group of students passionate about micro-mobility and deliveries. 1.5 years later, we’re proud of what Whizz is today, hitting a key milestone as a team, equipped with the same hunger and excitement for the endless possibilities to come.” said Melvin Foo.

Under his leadership, in July 2020, we officially started operations alongside Cates, delivering food and beverages within the NTU campus during lunch and dinner timings. While our ‘foodbots’ were constantly undergoing upgrades and adapting to new environments, they were making deliveries and satiating customers along the way.

Of course, we did not forget our fellow bubble tea lovers out there! We recently included an afternoon tea delivery service that allows customers to spoil themselves with their favourite drinks and snacks in between meal times. 

Be it from the comfort of their bed or rushing between classes, in just a few clicks, customers are presented with a wide selection of F&B stores on the Cates app, all while being able to order to their location of choice. On top of that, they can even pre-order their food and drinks so that they can collect it on-the-go.

Since then, we have been on the fast track to being Singapore’s leading autonomous delivery robot company, having made 10,000 safe deliveries, over S$70k worth of deliveries (as of May 2021), while utilising our 5 operational robots. 

Now, with the expected increase in demand, the foodbot’s services has expanded to the entire NTU campus, covering 200 hectares and hosting a campus population of almost 40,000 members — a 4 whopping times increase in the delivery area and number of customers served previously!

As we achieve a greater reach, we’re motivated to work harder, improve further and aim higher. We’re constantly working to upgrade not only our robots but ourselves, so we hope to grow as a company, with a team determined to provide the best solution to last-mile delivery.
